Empowering Roots Psychotherapy & Wellness in Etobicoke, ON

Good daughter. Good wife. Good employee. But when was the last time anyone asked how you are?

You learned that being “good” meant being agreeable, keeping the peace, and putting everyone else first. So you met the expectations, avoided disappointing the people you love, and became the person everyone could rely on.

But somewhere along the way, you lost touch with what you want. Now every decision feels like a tug-of-war between honouring your family and honouring yourself.

You feel anxious, stuck, and selfish for wanting more—even when the life you are living no longer feels like your own.

We help you untangle those expectations, set healthier boundaries, and move toward a life that does not require anyone else’s permission.

Gulrukh Khan

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying),
MACP, BSc (Hons) Owner, Clinician

Healing shouldn't cost you your culture, and honouring your culture shouldn't cost you yourself.

I’m Gul (she/her), a South Asian Muslim immigrant woman and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) based in Ontario. I built the kind of space I once needed myself, one where you don’t have to choose between your healing and your heritage, or explain the weight you carry before the work can begin. I’ve walked this path: the family expectations, the people-pleasing, the ache of living in between worlds.

Together, with warmth, 100% honesty and 0% judgement, we untangle the patterns that were never yours to carry, so you can move through your life feeling lighter, clearer, and more like yourself.

Empowering Roots Psychotherapy & Wellness was built for South Asian, BIPOC, and immigrant women who are tired of feeling stuck. If you’re navigating anxiety, people-pleasing, relational stress, boundary violations, burnout, or the lasting weight of trauma, and you’re ready to feel in control of your own life, you’re in the right place. We offer in-person therapy in Etobicoke and online sessions across Ontario.

At Empowering Roots, we don’t direct bill insurance providers. However, many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) or Registered Psychotherapist. We recommend checking with your plan administrator to confirm your coverage before your first individual or couples therapy session.

There’s no script and no pressure to have it all figured out. If you’re searching for a “South Asian therapist near me” or “BIPOC therapist near me” and find us, your first therapy session is simply an invitation to share what feels important, at your own pace, in your own words. Together, you and your Muslim therapist Toronto will begin to understand what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping for. Most clients leave feeling lighter just from having finally said the things out loud.

If you’ve already tried the usual things, the self-help books, the podcasts, the workbooks, maybe even praying it away, and you still feel stuck, therapy might be exactly what’s missing. You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve support. If you want to heal and don’t know where to begin, that’s reason enough to reach out to a therapist for South Asians Ontario.

We require 48 business hours notice to cancel or reschedule. You can do this through your client portal or by emailing your Registered Psychotherapist Etobicoke directly. Please note that emails sent on weekends, statutory holidays, or after business hours are processed the next business day, and voicemail isn’t a valid method for cancellation. Appointments cancelled without enough notice are subject to the full session fee.
